Peter Obi Advocates for Stronger UK-Nigeria Relations Amid Labour Party Victory

Abuja – Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has called for strengthened ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in the wake of the UK Labour Party’s recent electoral victory. Obi emphasized that collaboration could significantly help Nigeria address pressing issues such as insecurity, education, healthcare, and poverty.

The UK Labour Party was declared the official winner of the general election after securing the required 326 parliamentary seats, ending over 14 years of Conservative Party governance. Obi congratulated Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party, expressing hopes for a renewed chapter for all UK residents and potential benefits for Nigeria.

In a post on his X handle on Friday, Obi stated, “I sincerely congratulate @Keir_Starmer and the Labour Party UK on the landslide victory they recorded in Thursday’s election. May the victory translate to a better and new chapter for all UK residents as you remain committed to your electoral promises.”

Obi suggested that stronger UK-Nigeria ties could help deepen democracy in Nigeria during these challenging times. He noted that Nigeria, facing significant challenges in security, education, healthcare, and poverty, could greatly benefit from UK support.

“I also hope that your government will promote stronger ties between the UK and Nigeria and help in deepening our own democracy, especially during the challenging times that our nation is going through,” Obi added. “Let us work together to build a brighter future for the Commonwealth. I wish you a successful tenure.”
