JuJu Watkins: On Court and Off
With a high-profile basketball career fast-tracked to go professional in just a few years, 19-year-old JuJu Watkins is juggling college coursework alongside her athletic endeavours. The USC freshmen isn’t fazed about the added responsibilities, instead, expressing her enthusiasm for learning to play the guitar. In an event hosted by Meta AI, Watkins noted that she hopes aspiring athletes can make use of the tool to access resources, such as training plans.
When Mashable caught up with Watkins recently, she revealed her relaxation techniques when not on the court. “Sometimes I use stress balls; I love them when I’m studying,” Watkins shared. Her stress ball-loving self also has a soft spot for ASMR, saying it’s very calming.
On her time at USC, Watkins is enjoying herself, having taken two interesting classes so far – feminist theory and communications. “It’s been a cool experience, learning about history and how it all comes together,” Watkins said.
Watkins’ passions extend beyond basketball. She identified as a collector, though she believes she goes through phases. “Whenever I find something that I actually really want, then I’ll say, ‘Okay, I’ll buy that,'” she said, mentioning an exception – sneakers. It seems her collection of iconic sneakers will always be something she treasurers.
With her growing recognition, Watkins is stepping into television, citing a recent iconic Morgant and Morgan ad as being a bit outside her usual comfort zone. When asked what she’s listening to currently, Watts mentioned Kaytranada and feeling an upbeat vibe due to it being summer.
With her basketball career taking off, Watkins sees the value in exploring resources like Meta AI to stay productive and focused. Her personality shines, whether on or off the court, even if she does go through phasing with collecting.
“Your idea of me is not my responsibility to live up to.” We’re sure we’re not alone when we think that quote is refreshing.
