Samsung’s Noida Factory: A Growing Hub for Indian Market
Samsung Electronics has announced a significant visit to its Noida factory, which is touted as the “world’s largest mobile factory” by the company. JH Han, Vice Chairman, CEO, and Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division, paid a visit to the facility on Tuesday, commending the India-based research and development (R&D) teams for their efforts.
The Noida plant, located in Uttar Pradesh, is a critical production center for Samsung, manufacturing a range of consumer electronic devices, including smartphones, tablets, and refrigerators. The visit marks the official’s second trip to India in 2024, underscoring the country’s growing importance for the South Korean technology conglomerate.
Han praised India, highlighting its position as one of the fastest-growing markets globally and a significant opportunity for Samsung. The company was among the first to invest in India, and Han expressed pride in the Noida factory’s success, stating that it has emerged as one of the company’s biggest facilities, manufacturing not only for India but for the world.
The Noida plant, which was first set up in 1996, started smartphone manufacturing in 2017. Its capacity was expanded to a production limit of 120 million smartphones per year in 2018, following an investment of Rs. 4,916 crore. The facility is spread over 129,000 square meters.
The company has announced plans to start manufacturing laptop models in India, which will be sold in the local markets later this year. Apart from the Noida factory, Samsung also has another plant in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur.
During his visit, Han praised the R&D carried out by India-based teams, stating that many young and enterprising engineers are playing a significant role in the development of AI. Samsung has committed to the “Make in India” initiative, with a total of three R&D centers in India, two of which are located in Noida and one in Bengaluru.
