Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company Sealed Over N600m Tax Liability
The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has taken drastic measures to ensure tax compliance by sealing the premises of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) over a N600 million tax liability.
According to Jerry Adams, the Executive Chairman of KADIRS, the sealing of KAEDCO’s premises is an execution of a court order to restrain the company over the liability due to the state. The tax liability dates back to 2015 and was agreed upon by KAEDCO after reconciliations were done.
However, Adams lamented that despite the company’s commitment to pay the liability, it has not met its obligations since last year. "We are backed by the law to seal and take over their premises in order to ensure compliance, and that is what we executed this morning," he said.
Adams also used the opportunity to call on other businesses, individuals, corporate organizations, and the public to ensure voluntary compliance in tax payments. The sealing of KAEDCO’s premises is a stark reminder of the importance of tax compliance and the consequences of failure to do so.
The move by KADIRS is a significant step in ensuring that taxpaying entities in the state fulfill their obligations to the government. It is hoped that this action will serve as a deterrent to other companies and individuals who may be defaulting on their tax payments.
