Tinubu Postpones FEC, Meets Service Chiefs Amid Nationwide Protests

Nigeria’s President Tinubu Postpones Council Meeting, to Hold Urgent Talks with Security Chiefs

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has postponed this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting to an undisclosed date, opting instead to hold an urgent meeting with top security chiefs. The move comes amidst widespread protests across the country, with thousands of Nigerians, mostly youths, taking to the streets to demand an end to poverty, hunger, and bad governance.

According to sources close to the matter, the meeting with security chiefs may not be unrelated to the ongoing nationwide protests, which have entered their fifth day. The demonstrations, which began on Thursday, have seen Nigerians from all walks of life, including students, workers, and civil society groups, demand change from the government.

President Tinubu had earlier called for dialogue and an immediate end to the protests, saying his administration is ready to listen to and address the concerns of the protesters. However, despite his plea, the protests have continued, with Nigerians regrouping across the country, including in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano.

The meeting with security chiefs is expected to be attended by the vice president, national security adviser, all service chiefs, the inspector general of police, comptroller generals of customs and immigration, and the chief of staff to the president. The exact date of the meeting has not been disclosed.

As the situation continues to unfold, Nigerians remain hopeful that the government will take concrete steps to address the root causes of the protests and improve the lives of its citizens.
