Ogun State Embarks on Sensitization Campaign to Promote Fair Pricing in Markets

Ogun State Government Launches Sensitization Campaign to Encourage Fair Pricing in Markets

The Ogun State Government has launched a sensitization campaign to encourage fair pricing of goods and services in markets across the state. The campaign, led by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, aims to ensure that traders do not exploit consumers by inflating prices due to harsh economic conditions.

According to the Commissioner in the Ministry, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, the government has been providing various intervention programs, including soft loans and grants, to empower women and boost their businesses through the Oko’Owo Dapo initiative. Adeleye emphasized that the government’s goal is to ensure that markets operate fairly and equitably, benefiting both traders and consumers.

During a visit to markets in Ogun Central and West Senatorial Districts, including Siun and Kuto, Adeleye called on traders to adopt fair and realistic pricing strategies, stating that the government is passionate about the welfare and well-being of citizens. The Commissioner appealed to traders to cooperate with the government to achieve a positive outcome, promote economic development, protect consumer interests, and encourage healthy competition.

In response, Iyaloja of Egba Market, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Oloyede, commended both the federal and state governments for initiating policies and programs to support agriculture and transportation. She pledged continuous efforts to ensure market women adopt fair pricing, which will alleviate the suffering of the masses.

The Ogun State Government’s sensitization campaign is a significant step towards promoting economic stability and fairness in the state’s markets. By encouraging traders to adopt fair pricing strategies, the government is working towards ensuring that consumers are protected from exploitation and that the economy benefits from healthy competition.
