Tinubu’s Administration Eyes CNG-Powered Transportation to Ease Nigerians’ Yearnings

Nigeria’s Transportation Future Takes a Step Forward as President Tinubu Inaugurates 30 Hybrid CNG Buses

In a significant move towards improving Nigeria’s transportation system, President Bola Tinubu on Monday inaugurated 30 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses donated by the Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) to the Federal Government.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, President Tinubu expressed his administration’s commitment to satisfying the yearnings of Nigerians on transportation. He hailed the innovative step taken by DAPPMAN, saying it would bring about transformative changes in the industry.

“We are determined to satisfy the yearnings of Nigerians on transportation,” President Tinubu said. “Utilising natural gas to power our transportation industry is the next way to go. With our gas, if we work harder, to be productive and innovative, utilising CNG vehicles is an economic necessity that we should embrace.”

The President also commended INNOSON Motors, a Nigerian company based in Nnewi, for designing, manufacturing, and delivering the hybrid buses. He noted that the country’s commercial vehicles make up about 80 per cent of its petrol demand, costing the country trillions of Naira each month.

Mrs Winifred Akpani, Chairman of DAPPMAN, said the hybrid buses were designed to run on CNG and have alternative use of diesel. Each bus is capable of transporting 100 people, and the association has made provision to train two drivers for each bus at the facility where they were manufactured.

“We are very happy today that we are able to present this first batch,” Mrs Akpani said. “We will continue to go the extra mile to ease the problems of all of us not just the downtrodden but everybody.”

The inauguration of the hybrid CNG buses is seen as a major step towards reducing transportation costs in Nigeria and promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment. With this initiative, the country is poised to take a significant leap towards achieving its economic goals.
