Admission Integrity in Nigerian Institutions: RECTEM and JAMB Collaborate
The Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) recently hosted the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and admission officers from both public and private institutions in Ogun State at a one-day conference. The event aimed to address the challenges faced by admission officers and promote admission integrity in tertiary institutions across the state.
In her opening remark, Dr. Stella Mofunanya, Rector of RECTEM, emphasized that making admissions right is a collective responsibility, requiring the collaboration of all stakeholders. She encouraged admission officers to complement the transparency and accountability efforts of the parent body to ensure a seamless admission process.
Abdulhameed Abdulhakeem, JAMB Coordinator for Ogun State, highlighted the importance of his office’s role in domesticating the concerns of the parent body to achieve error-free admission-related issues. He warned that institutions would face severe sanctions from the Minister of Education if they fail to comply with automated admission processes.
Abdulhakeem stressed that all admissions must be made on the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) and that any admissions not conducted through this system are illegal. He also announced a one-month grace period for institutions to compile and disclose undisclosed admissions, with the goal of resolving any discrepancies.
The conference aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity in the admission process, ensuring that candidates receive fair and merit-based admissions.
