TCN Confirms Capacity to Transmit 6,000MW of Electricity Nationally

Nigeria’s Transmission Company Boosts Capacity to 6,000MW

Abuja, Nigeria – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced its ability to transmit 6,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity to distribution load centers nationwide. According to Mr. Sule Abdulaziz, the Managing Director of TCN, the company has upgraded several sub-stations over the last three years, built new ones, and installed new transformers to increase its capacity.

Abdulaziz made the announcement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday. He revealed that the company has a comprehensive list of proposed projects, which are being implemented in batches to ensure quick additional capacity. The grid capacity was confirmed through an acceptable scientific method of capacity determination, showing a capacity of 8,100 MWS.

The TCN boss emphasized that the company has continued to add more transformers, conduct transmission lines, and build new transmission sub-stations, further strengthening its grid capacity. Abdulaziz expressed confidence that TCN can comfortably transmit 6,000 MW and more before the end of the year.

The Nigerian Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) is another key project that TCN is a part of. The initiative, undertaken by the Federal Government of Nigeria Power Company (FGNPC), aims to resolve existing challenges in the nation’s power sector and expand the capacity of the transmission and distribution networks to achieve an operational capacity of 25,000 MW.

The PPI is currently ongoing in three phases, with projects adding to the capacity of the grid. Abdulaziz’s remarks have sparked optimism among Nigerians, who have long faced power outages and supply challenges. The development is expected to boost economic growth and improve the overall living standards of the population.
