Niger Govt Supports Shiroro Mining Pit Collapse Victims with N50m

Niger Government Offers Financial Support to Families of Mine Pit Collapse Victims

In a move to alleviate the suffering of families affected by the devastating June mining pit collapse in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, the government has disbursed N50 million in relief support. The funds will be used to support the families of the 14 people who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the Niger Government, clarified that the support is a relief measure and not a form of compensation. Usman, who was represented by Garba Auna, Commissioner, Niger Ministry for Mineral Resources, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and commended the committee for their tireless efforts in identifying those affected.

The committee, established on August 6, was tasked with identifying the dead, their next of kin, and the injured to provide necessary support. According to Abubakar Sadiq, Chairman of the committee, 21 people were affected by the incident, and 14 lost their lives. Sadiq expressed gratitude to Governor Umaru Bago for seeing the need to support the families of the victims.

Richard Lagado, Vice Chairman of Shiroro Local Government, also praised the governor’s kind gesture. Safiya Ibrahim, who lost her husband in the incident, thanked the state government for the support and promised to make judicious use of it.

This financial support is a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by the devastating incident. It is hoped that the aid will help the families affected to continue with their daily lives and rebuild their future.
