WhatsApp Introduces New Feature to Protect Users from Unwanted Messages

WhatsApp has rolled out an update to its beta testers, featuring a new safety feature designed to keep users safe from unwanted messages sent from unknown accounts. The feature, which is currently available to some beta testers, automatically protects users from unidentified senders by filtering out messages under specific circumstances.

To enable this feature, beta testers running the latest version for Android smartphones can tap on the three-dot menu, followed by Settings, Privacy, Advanced, and Block unknown account messages. This new toggle is already available on the latest beta version, confirmed by Gadgets 360.

According to WhatsApp’s description, the new feature is designed to protect a user’s account and improve device performance. Once enabled, the messaging platform will block messages sent by unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume. This is aimed at preventing automated spam messages from negatively affecting a user’s device performance.

Although this feature is currently limited to beta testers, it will eventually join two other advanced privacy features on WhatsApp, including protecting a user’s IP address in calls and disabling link previews to prevent third parties from inferring a user’s IP address. All three features are options that must be manually enabled by a user on their smartphone.

WhatsApp users can look forward to gaining access to this new privacy feature, which is expected to roll out to the stable update channel in the future.
