NIS Clears 204,332 Backlog Passports, Introduces Home Delivery

NIGERIA’S IMMGRATION SERVICE REFORM MOVES FORWARD

In their quest to revamp international travel for Nigerian citizens and enhance national security, the Honourable Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and her team have achieved significant triumphs in the past annum. At a recent industry event, Dr Tunji-Ojo announced that some 204,332 backup passport applications have been clearing in the span of fewer than 10 months of a comprehensive overhaul of these processes.

These advancements don’t stop there. One of the primary accomplishments touted by the minister is embracing cutting-edge technologies to control Nigeria’s expansive borders accurately. This reform, they say, aims to give Nigerian citizens more straightforward as well as transparent experiences all the way through the government’s immigration process.

Speaking at the media event were Dr Tunji-Ojos, "Our comprehensive reconstruction of the passport issuance systems, addressing issues that frustrating millions of Nigerian citizens all the while."

Asides from the clear-out of enormous backlogs of passport processes, the service has released a home delivery system from passports, an innovation purpose-built to avoid citizens taking the time, energy that they would be waiting inside queues or for extended to obtain their documents.

By introducing contactless technology this service has enhanced efficiency inside the passport application process improving the overall flow.

To support this efficiency, the immigration service made the decision to install computerized gates in the International airports across the country from Nigeria.
