Labour Party Leaders Refute Claims of Political Sabotage
Tensions escalated within the Kaduna State Labour Party (LP) as the Kaduna State Labour Party Caretaker Committee issued a statement to refute claims by the party’s former executive that prominent leaders, Senator Nenadi Usman and Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, were not registered members of the party. The allegations came as the party transitions from one leadership to another, sparking an intense battle for control and legitimacy.
The Caretaker Committee challenged the outgone executive to provide documentation to support their claims. In a stark contrast, the committee shared the official register and membership card of Senator Nenadi Usman for public verification.
The committee cited an alleged incident involving Zephaniah Yohanna, the Kagarko Local Government Chairman, who reportedly confirmed Senator Nenadi Usman’s registration upon inquiry from the outgone executive. Instead of honoring the legitimate decision, they allegedly pressured the chairman to suspend Senator Usman. This episode has raised serious concerns about attempts to undermine legitimate party members.
Another point of contention is that the former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the party, a Kogi State native, lacks precise knowledge of ward registrations in Kaduna State. Consequently, Auta advised against engaging in name-calling and blackmailing.
"These esteemed individuals are not opposed to party members; only the former executives are unable to come to terms with the new realities," a statement released by the Labour Party reads. "To prove their devotion to party interests and progress, these former leaders must support local government elections’ fundraising and cease pretending to be de facto party leaders."
Caretaker Committee officials highlighted the necessity of unity for the Labour Party’s long-term prosperity. They issued a passionate call to previous executives, requesting they opt for honorable pursuits and distance themselves from such divisive power struggles. The committee asserted that those driving the divisive agenda have little innovative understanding of party advancements.
