Rivers State Unravels: Candidate Accuses Politicians of Stifling Development

Rivers State Residents Suffer as Political Crisis Worsens, Cole Warns

The ongoing political crisis in Rivers State has taken a toll on its residents, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Tonye Cole, stating that the people of the state are the ultimate losers. Cole made this declaration during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, saying that development has ground to a halt in the state.

The APC candidate revealed that the people of Rivers state do not matter in the ongoing political equation, citing the battle for supremacy between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, as the primary cause of the stalemate. According to Cole, if the interests of the people of Rivers State were prioritized, the situation would not have escalated to its current state, where development has stagnated and the poor man on the street is suffering.

Cole also criticized Governor Fubara, stating that he is stuck in a precarious political situation, which is affecting governance in the state. He warned that the governor’s decision to present the budget to the Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, could lead to a possible impeachment issue, citing the ambiguous legal situation in which the governor is currently operating. With the Assembly being led by an APC member, while the governor is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the local government structure being affiliated with the Action People’s Party (APP), Cole believes that there are three different parties vying for power in the state.

The situation in Rivers State has become increasingly complex, with Governor Fubara being forced to navigate a treacherous political landscape. Cole’s warnings serve as a stark reminder that the people of Rivers State are bearing the brunt of the crisis, and it is imperative that a solution is found to restore normalcy and development to the state.
