Adamawa Assembly passes bill for road development agency

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to establish the Adamawa State Road Development and Maintenance Agency.

The assembly, at its sitting on Wednesday, also passed a bill for a law to repeal the Adamawa State House of Assembly Service Commission (Amendment) law 2021.

The Assembly said its Services Commission bill is designed to remove restrictions on the appointment of the chairman and members of the commission.

The passage of the two bills resulted from the consideration of two separate reports by two committees of the Assembly, namely the Committee on Public Petitions, Public Service and Electoral Matters; and the Committee on Works, Energy, Land & Survey.

In his presentation, Japhet Hammajabu who chaired the production of the report on the road agency, said its establishment is for the overall management, development, rehabilitation, reconstruction and maintenance of roads across the the state.

He said the state government would benefit greatly from the guidance as well as active participation in the construction or maintenance of roads around the state.

“The agency will promote sustainable development and operation of the rural and urban roads,” he stressed.

After the passage of the bills, the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, directed the clerk of the Assembly to prepare clean copies for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s attention.
