The National Assembly has decided to step down the 2025 budget for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation. This announcement was made by Senator Kenneth Eze, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, during the ministry’s budget defense, which was shared in a viral video on X on Tuesday.
In conjunction with this decision, the committee has summoned the minister responsible for the ministry, Mohammed Idris, to appear before them. Senator Eze expressed his concerns regarding the proposed budget, stating that the funding allocated for the ministry is far from satisfactory. He emphasized that the budget for such an important ministry should not be seen as a national embarrassment.
Senator Eze remarked, “The budget is nothing to write home about. It is more like a national embarrassment to give the ministry what is being budgeted for.” Supporting this view, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that the budget was stepped down due to its inadequacy. She stated, “I second the stepping down of the 2025 budget for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation because the funding as presented is inadequate. We also summon the Minister of Information and National Orientation for further review.”
Additionally, Media Talk Africa reports that the Senate has suspended plenary for two weeks to consider the proposed N49.7 trillion budget for 2025.
