Sokoto ex-gov, Attahiru Bafarawa resigns from PDP

Attahiru Bafarawa, a former governor of Sokoto State, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Bafarawa was the executive governor of Sokoto State in Nigeria from 29 May, 1999 to 29 May, 2007.

The former Governor, in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP, said he has now rededicated himself to a new youth movement with a transformative agenda.

The politician said he would now be solely focusing on creating avenues for youth empowerment and wishes to avoid any potential conflict of interest.

As politicians strategise ahead of 2027, Media Talk Africa recently reported that a former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano, Abbas Sani Abbas, decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.

Abbas was until his sack as a commissioner, a card carrying member of the NNPP.

He was sacked by Governor Abba Yusuf, alongside the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Bichi, and some other cabinet members.

The sack followed calls by some NNPP leaders that Governor Yusuf should take charge of governance firmly in the state.
