Troops arrest suspected gunrunner, recover submachine gun in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have apprehended a suspected gunrunner in Taraba State.
The suspect, who was arrested on January 13, 2025, in Gassol Local Government Area of the state, was identified as Alhaji Adamu Usman.

In a statement made available to journalists in Jalingo a few minutes ago by the acting spokesperson of the brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, items including a fabricated submachine gun were recovered from him.

“The operation, conducted on 13 January 2025, was based on credible intelligence. Troops launched a precise raid on the suspect’s residence in Maraban Gassol, located in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

“During the search, they uncovered the illegally fabricated submachine gun, which is believed to be linked to arms trafficking activities,” the statement read.

Elated by the development, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, praised the troops for their gallantry and professionalism in executing the operation.

He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and combating the proliferation of illegal arms in the state.

He urged the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to help address security challenges effectively.
