We’ll intensify efforts to empower women — Ogun Commissioner

The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, has assured that the ministry will step up its efforts to empower women, protect children, and promote inclusive social development.

Adeleye disclosed this in an interview shortly after the ministry’s 3-in-1 programme, which featured an annual lecture, award ceremony, and New Year party, held in Abeokuta.

The commissioner challenged the workers to raise the bar of performance through quality contributions to the reforms in the ministry, aimed at protecting women, children, and vulnerable groups.

She said: “Together, we will continue to break barriers, champion social development, and uplift the lives of women and children across Ogun State.

“As we step into 2025, let us renew our commitment to the mission of this ministry. Our goals remain clear: to empower women, protect children, and drive inclusive social development.”

“This year, we will intensify our efforts, push boundaries, and create opportunities that transform lives across Ogun State. Together, we can achieve even greater milestones and make 2025 a year of exceptional impact.”

Earlier, in her lecture, the former Head of Service, Selimot Otun, in her paper titled “Role and Impact of Social Workers in Society”, pointed out that the workforce in the ministry is pivotal to maintaining the social cohesion of society through a united family, which in turn positively affects social development.

Otun, a former Permanent Secretary in the ministry, challenged the workers to embrace excellence and work towards changing the narrative through effectiveness, improved service delivery, and uprightness in their daily duties.

Also, in his separate lecture, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr Jola Oyeneye, who spoke on “Bureaucracy and Service Delivery: The Public Service Way”, implored them to be creative, innovative, and bring added value to the public service, leveraging technology and fostering collaboration with a goal-oriented mindset.

The permanent secretary assured that the state government would continue to provide a reward system to encourage outstanding performance among staff, noting that there are ongoing reforms that will continue to challenge the status quo in line with daily realities.

The event’s highlights included the awarding of ministry employees and a reminder that their accomplishments, efforts, and ingenuity were not meant to raise them personally, but rather to uplift the entire ministry, state, and nation as a whole.
