Edo: EIRS seeks security agencies partnership for revenue collection

The management of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, EIRS, has solicited the support of security agencies for the enforcement of tax collection in the State.

Media Talk Africa reports that the executive chairman of the Service, Oladele Bankole-Balogun, made the call during a visit to the Edo State commands of the Nigeria Police and Department of State Security Service.

Bankole-Balogun, who disclosed that the Service generated over N10 billion in January 2025, solicited the support and partnership of the security agencies in sustaining the record with a view to ensuring compliance with the tax laws.

He also sued for the collaboration and support of the security agencies for the operations of the agency.

According to him, the over N10 billion generated in January followed the mandate given to the agency by the Governor Monday Okpebholo.

He said Okpebholo charged the new EIRS Board with a clear mandate of generating IGR for the developmental needs of the state in line with the administration’s five points agenda.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, who appreciated the EIRS management for the visit, assured that the Command would support and partner with the agency to sustain the IGR collection.

Otimenyin noted that IGR is needed by the government to bring more development and the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
