Arsenal confirm Havertz to miss rest of season

Arsenal have confirmed that Kai Havertz will miss the rest of the season, after he suffered a serious hamstring injury.

Havertz picked up the issue while the team was on warm weather training in Dubai, UAE.

“Subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that the injury will require surgery, which will take place in the coming days,” an official statement on Thursday added.

“Soon after surgery, Kai will begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, which is expected to extend into pre-season preparations for next season.”

This means that Mikel Arteta will be without a recognised striker for the final 14 games of the Premier League season.

Gabriel Jesus has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season, after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Arsenal are looking to close a seven-point gap on leaders Liverpool and will play in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The club failed to bring in a striker in the January transfer window and saw a late bid for Ollie Watkins rejected by Aston Villa.
