A principal medical officer, Geidam Bulama, who was abducted 11 months ago by the Islamic State West African Province in Borno State, has regained freedom. Bulama was reportedly released in Gubio before he was moved to Maiduguri where he reunited with his family. It was not clear if a ransom was paid before his release. Bulama was abducted in March 2022, when the insurgents invaded Gubio Local Government Area, about 70 kilometres from Maiduguri, Borno State. The insurgents were said to have attacked the town and looted food items and fuel from a humanitarian truck. Residents fled for safety during the attack, returning to their homes after the insurgents had withdrawn from the town.
