Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two cousins, Damilola Famoriyo, 34, and Akinbayo Abiodun, 31, for robbery and murder. The suspects were apprehended after carrying out eight operations and killing a motorcyclist, Amos Chuckwuka. They reportedly dumped his corpse at the Agoro riverbank in Ijebu‑Ode and fled with his tricycle, according to a statement released on Saturday by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi.
Oyeyemi said the arrests followed information received by policemen attached to Obalende Divisional Headquarters, Ijebu‑Ode, on 13 December 2022. A dead body was later identified as that of the tricycle rider. “Upon receiving the information, the DPO Obalende division, SP Murphy Salami, led his detectives to the scene, where it was discovered that the deceased had been macheted to death and his tricycle taken away,” Oyeyemi explained. The DPO then deployed a specialized team to conduct technical and forensic investigations to uncover those responsible for the “devilish act.”
Their efforts yielded results on 9 February 2023, when one suspect, Damilola Famoriyo, who resides at Awosan Fakale, Ikorodu, Lagos, was arrested with the victim’s phone. His arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice and cousin, Akinbayo Emmanuel Abiodun, of Road 1, Block A, Maya, Ikorodu, Lagos State. During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime, describing themselves as a two‑man syndicate that specialized in snatching motorcycles and tricycles. They admitted to operating primarily in Ijebu‑Ode and its environs.
According to their statements, on 13 December 2022 they lured the victim, Amos Oyemechi Chuckwuka, to transport farm products from the Agoro area to town in exchange for a price. When they reached the Agoro/Ikangba road, they stopped him, seized his tricycle, and, as he struggled, macheted him to death before dragging his body to the riverbank and dumping it. The suspects further disclosed that they had stolen up to eight tricycles in the Ijebu‑Ode area, with their standby buyers located in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The police recovered two phones belonging to the deceased and the cutlass used in the murder. The PPRO added that Commissioner of Police Frank Mba has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
