Food price drop direct result of Tinubu’s intervention — Kyari

Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has attributed the recent drop in food prices to direct policy interventions by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the sector.

Kyari made this assertion on Wednesday in a brief statement via his X account, following his visit to Agbeyewa Farm in Ekiti State.

“Contrary to the claims of naysayers, we did not import food. The recent drop in food prices across Nigerian markets is a direct result of the deliberate efforts of our president and leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to ensure food affordability for all Nigerians,” he stated.

His remarks come amid criticism from former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who had faulted Tinubu’s economic policies.

El-Rufai specifically argued, “You don’t reduce food inflation by destroying domestic agriculture through importation, for instance,” in reference to Tinubu’s approach.

Meanwhile, the latest Consumer Price Index, CPI, report from the National Bureau of Statistics indicates that food inflation dropped to 26.09 per cent following the CPI rebase.
