EU reacts to Trump’s 25% tariffs on imports

European Commission, EU, on Wednesday said it will react “firmly and immediately” to unjustified barriers to free and fair trade after United States President Donald Trump said his government would soon announce a 25% tariff on imports from the EU.

According to Reuters, an EU spokesperson said this in response to Trump’s comments.

“The EU will react firmly and immediately against unjustified barriers to free and fair trade, including when tariffs are used to challenge legal and non-discriminatory policies.

“The EU will always protect European businesses, workers, and consumers from unjustified tariffs,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Recall that Trump had threatened to slap 25% tariffs on the EU.

He also claimed that the 27-country bloc was “formed to screw the United States”.

The Republican said this at his first cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

“We have made a decision and we’ll be announcing it very soon. It’ll be 25%,” Trump said.
