First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo‑Olu, emphasized that an efficient and accessible primary healthcare system is essential for safeguarding the health of the people. Speaking at the commissioning of the Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo‑Olu Primary Health Centre in Omotoye Estate—built by the Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman, Mr Johnson Babatunde—she warned that no government should downplay or trivialize primary health services.
“The State Government fully understands the importance of a strong, efficient, and accessible primary healthcare system to the overall goal of protecting public health,” she said. “A government worth its salt must not underestimate primary health. As the first point of contact for communities, we cannot afford an ineffective or non‑functional PHC system.” She added that a robust primary healthcare network reduces pressure on secondary and tertiary facilities, helping to keep people healthy and improve their quality of life. “We cannot cope with the consequences of neglecting primary care, which has the mandate to support people in managing their health and achieving better outcomes for all.”
Mr Johnson Babatunde, who also commissioned two other projects in the LCDA on Tuesday—a primary school and the Taofeek Adaranijo Event Centre—highlighted the administration’s ongoing efforts since 2017. “We have embarked on numerous infrastructural, developmental, human, and educational programs that will positively impact lives. Our aim is to renew, restore, and build upon existing legacies as an administration passionate about the well‑being, education, and economic growth of Orile Agege,” he said.
Lagos State House of Assembly member Mudashiru Obasa echoed the sentiment, noting the growing importance of LCDA initiatives. “The LCDA has become crucial to us in Lagos State. Looking at our Primary Health Centre, you can see the various projects being implemented here in Orile Agege.”
