Three PDP senators from Kebbi set to defect to APC

Three senators from Kebbi State under Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Ganduje made this known to journalists shortly after the senators met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

“The PDP senators from Kebbi State today officially informed the president that they are leaving their party to join our party, the APC,” Ganduje said.

He added that the three senators will formally announce their defection on the floor of the Senate next week, in line with constitutional provisions.

The senators involved are Senator Adamu Aliero, Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi, and Senator Garba Maidoki.

Recently, political defections among top politicians have gained renewed momentum across the country, with some key figures from opposition parties joining the APC.

Just weeks ago, Delta State Governor and former governor Ifeanyi Okowa — who was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election — also declared his defection to the APC.
