Table Tennis Titan Clash: 2025 ITTF World Championships Set to Electrify Qatar

The wait is almost over for table tennis enthusiasts worldwide as the 2025 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships prepare to kick off in Doha, Qatar, from May 17 to 25. This prestigious event, now in its 58th edition, marks a significant return to the Qatari capital, which first hosted the championships back in 2004. The action-packed tournament promises to deliver unparalleled excitement, featuring 640 talented players from around the globe, competing in five main events: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

The Lusail Multipurpose Hall and Qatar University Sports Complex will serve as the two primary venues, hosting a total of 443 matches. The competition format will be a thrilling knockout, with singles matches contested in a best-of-seven games format and doubles in best-of-five. The star-studded lineup includes world number one Lin Shidong and Sun Yingsha from China, French stars Félix Lebrun and Alexis Lebrun, and Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto, ensuring that fans will be treated to breathtaking displays of skill and strategy.

Representatives from South America, led by Brazil’s Hugo Calderano, and the Arab world, spearheaded by Egypt’s Omar Assar, will also be vying for glory. Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh, fresh from his victory at the WTT Star Contender Doha 2025, is another strong contender, despite a minor training injury. Meanwhile, the host nation, Qatar, will field a team of seven players, led by top local star Mohamed Abdulwahab, who have been intensively preparing to make a lasting impression in front of their passionate home crowd.

Qatar’s participation underscores the country’s growing commitment to developing table tennis and nurturing local talent for the global stage.
