Kwankwaso has three choices before 2027 – Salihu Yakasai

Former Kano State gubernatorial candidate and political commentator, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, popularly known as Dawisu, has said that former governor and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has only three political options ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yakasai made this known in a post on Facebook on Sunday, where he analyzed the possible routes Kwankwaso could take in his political journey moving forward.

According to him, “Kwankwaso has only three options. One, to go back to the APC, under Ganduje as National Chairman. Two, to join forces with Atiku and other opposition figures. Or three, remain in NNPP and risk becoming politically irrelevant.”

He warned that returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would mean Kwankwaso has to submit to his former political ally and now rival, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who currently serves as the APC National Chairman.

“If he returns to APC, he’ll have to bow to Ganduje, whom he once anointed but now opposes bitterly,” Yakasai wrote.

As for the second option, Yakasai suggested that aligning with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition forces could provide Kwankwaso a platform to remain nationally relevant, especially as the opposition considers a potential merger to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.

The third path, Yakasai noted, was to remain in the NNPP, which he mockingly referred to as a “kayan gwari party,” implying that the party lacks political weight at the national level.

Yakasai’s comments come amid increasing political realignments and speculations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP and placed fourth, has remained a significant figure in Northern politics but faces challenges in consolidating a broader national base.

As of the time of filing this report, Kwankwaso has not responded to Yakasai’s remarks yet.
