Mr. Dele Alake, the Special Adviser on Media, Communications, and Public Affairs for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, shared insights with ADEBAYO FOLORUNSHO-FRANCIS regarding what Nigerians can expect if the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, wins the upcoming election. When asked about the competitiveness of the presidential election, particularly against major opponents like Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Alake expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances. He criticized Atiku for his inconsistency in policy positions, noting his shifts between political parties and his lack of a clear stance on critical issues.
Alake highlighted Tinubu’s proactive response to the negative effects of the naira swap policy, stating that he was the only candidate courageous enough to voice concerns on behalf of the Nigerian people. In contrast, he accused Atiku of supporting the suffering of the masses and claimed that Obi initially remained silent on the issue before later aligning with the idea of imposing hardship on Nigerians. Alake lamented that misguided youths were supporting these candidates due to a lack of analytical power, emphasizing that Tinubu’s popularity stemmed from his genuine concern for the people.
When questioned about Obi’s potential as a threat to Tinubu, Alake pointed out Obi’s absence from significant political events, questioning where he held his grand finale rally. He noted that while Tinubu and Atiku held their rallies in major cities, Obi could not even conduct his in his home state of Anambra. Alake criticized Obi for providing misleading statistics and questioned his legacy during his eight years as governor, asserting that he failed to create a lasting impact in Anambra.
Alake firmly stated that Asiwaju Tinubu is the best candidate for the presidency, citing his impressive track record in Lagos State, which boasts an economy larger than that of 30 African countries. He challenged Nigerians to consider the lack of enduring achievements from Obi’s tenure as governor, contrasting it with the long-standing loyalty of those who have supported Tinubu for over 20 years. He emphasized Tinubu’s expertise in public finance, asserting that he would effectively manage Nigeria’s revenue and eliminate financial leakages without imposing additional taxes.
Addressing the possibility of Tinubu losing the election, Alake expressed that it would be a significant loss for Nigeria, as he believes Tinubu possesses the intellect and vision necessary to lead the country toward stability and progress. He recalled that during Tinubu’s previous terms as governor, he formed his cabinet in less than three weeks, indicating his efficiency and preparedness. Alake assured that within 100 days of Tinubu’s presidency, the country would see a reduction in current tensions and challenges, ushering in an era of peace, economic growth, and security.
Alake urged Nigerians to trust Tinubu, contrasting his track record with that of Atiku, who served as vice-president for eight years without making substantial progress in his home state or the nation. He reiterated that Tinubu’s accomplishments, such as the development of Eko Atlantic City, demonstrate his vision, knowledge, and courage. Alake highlighted that the United States is now constructing its largest embassy in the world on Eko Atlantic City, showcasing the direct foreign investment resulting from Tinubu’s initiatives. He concluded by asserting that there are numerous examples of Tinubu’s successful leadership that should inspire confidence among Nigerians.
