Lagos LG Poll: Group demands APC chairmanship candidate’s replacement over age discrepancies

A political advocacy group, Eti-Osa Collective, has expressed concern over alleged inconsistencies in the age records of Shamsideen Agunbiade, the All Progressives Congress, APC, chairmanship candidate for Eti-Osa Local Government Area, calling for his replacement ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State.

The group’s position was outlined in a press statement signed by Opeyemi Onifade, its Secretary-General, on Tuesday.

The statement warned that any irregularity in a candidate’s personal data, especially age, could lead to disqualification or legal complications, urging the APC to address the issue promptly to avoid potential post-election disputes.

According to the group, Agunbiade’s different ages across different electoral cycles raise serious questions. He reportedly claimed to be 33 years old during his time as Councillor for Ward E from 2004 to 2007. During his service as Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Environment between 2017 and 2021, he allegedly stated his age as 46.

However, the group highlighted a new discrepancy in 2025, noting that Agunbiade now lists his age as 49, just eight years after his previous declaration of being 46.

“These discrepancies are troubling and undermine the integrity of our democratic process,” the group said in its statement.

The Eti-Osa Collective also raised concerns about the authenticity of Agunbiade’s academic credentials, alleging that his Lagos State University certificate is under scrutiny.

“The party must investigate and take corrective steps before the election to prevent possible disqualification or prosecution,” the group added.
