Naira records first appreciation across official, black markets in days

Nigeria’s currency, the naira, on Thursday recorded its first appreciation against the dollar this week across the official and parallel foreign exchange markets.

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s foreign exchange data showed that the value of the naira stood at N1,534.79 per dollar on Thursday, up from N1,535.62 traded on Wednesday.

This means the naira gained N0.83 marginally against the dollar on a day-to-day basis.

Similarly, at the black market, the naira appreciated by N5 to N1,535 per dollar from N1,540 traded in the past days this week.

Media Talk Africa reports that gains across the foreign exchange markets represent the first appreciation since last Friday, July 18, 2025.

Recall that on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week, the naira depreciated at the official market but remained flat at the black market.
