The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has praised Dana Air for its decision to ground its airplanes for necessary maintenance checks. Captain Musa Nuhu, the Director General of the NCAA, shared this information exclusively with our correspondent in Abuja. He explained that Dana Air had grounded all its aircraft to conduct maintenance checks after recognizing that some of them were due for servicing. Nuhu remarked, “It is commendable for an operator to ground its aircraft for maintenance,” highlighting the importance of safety and compliance in the aviation industry. He also mentioned that the airline would inform the NCAA once the maintenance checks were completed.
In a related development, Dana Air announced early Friday morning via its official Instagram account that it would suspend flight operations due to the general elections scheduled for Saturday, February 25. The airline stated that operations would resume on Sunday, February 26. The announcement read, “Please be informed that we will not be operating on Friday, 24th and 25th of February 2023 due to the presidential and National Assembly elections. However, we will be operating as scheduled from Sunday, 26th February 2023.”
When asked if Dana Air would indeed resume operations on Sunday, Captain Nuhu responded, “The agreement is that they will notify us when they are due to resume. I think they said they are going to send us something today; once they provide that information and we are satisfied, then they can resume operations.” In response to the situation, Dana Air’s spokesperson, Kingsley Ezenwa, commented, “When there is a reduction in capacity, you just have to find a way to protect your passengers, and once your capacity increases, you can schedule your flights.”
