PDP Governorship Aspirant Brig. Gen. John Sura Resigns from Party

Senior Nigerian Politician Brig. Gen. John Sura Resigns from PDP

In a significant development in Nigerian politics, Brig. Gen. John Sura, a former governorship aspirant in Plateau State, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Gen. Sura, who vied for the governorship position in the 2023 primary election, made the announcement on his Facebook page, stating that he will convene a meeting to address his supporters and explain the reasons behind his decision.

Addressing his supporters, known as the ‘Sura Club and the Liberation Family’, Gen. Sura wrote, “It has become imperative that I address you directly as my compatriots because you have been there with me since the early days when I joined politics and ran for the 2023 gubernatorial elections till today.” He emphasized that it was a moral duty to inform his supporters personally about his resignation, although he had already discussed the issue with some of them.

Gen. Sura’s resignation follows a wave of defections that have hit the PDP in recent times. Notably, Chief Letep Dabang, the Director General of the Mutfwang/Piyo Campaign Organization in the 2023 elections, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last month. The defections have further depleted the PDP’s ranks, raising concerns about the party’s prospects in future elections.

While the exact reasons for Gen. Sura’s resignation are not yet clear, his decision is likely to have significant implications for the PDP in Plateau State. The development highlights the complex and dynamic nature of Nigerian politics, where party affiliations and alliances can shift rapidly.

As the news of Gen. Sura’s resignation spreads, many are left wondering about the potential impact on the PDP’s fortunes in Plateau State and the broader Nigerian political landscape. The coming days and weeks are likely to reveal more about the reasons behind Gen. Sura’s decision and the consequences for the PDP.
