PDP Clarifies 2027 Presidential Ticket Zoning Decision

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified its decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria, dismissing claims that the move is intended to benefit a specific individual, Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister. According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the decision aims to strengthen the party and ensure stability ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Ologunagba addressed the current state of the PDP, the forthcoming national convention, and dissenting views within the party. He emphasized that the PDP has faced challenges similar to those encountered by any organization but has since “recalibrated” to reposition itself for the upcoming polls. Ologunagba disputed comments made by Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of Benue State, who claimed that the party was in an “intensive care unit.” Instead, Ologunagba stated that the PDP has demonstrated its capacity to adapt and take charge of its internal affairs during difficult periods.

Regarding the zoning decision, Ologunagba maintained that no individual is bigger than the party. He explained that the decision was made after reviewing the party’s processes and identifying areas for improvement following the 2023 elections. Ologunagba asserted that the move has resulted in renewed unity and excitement within the PDP, with the party emerging stronger and more united.

The PDP’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the southern region has significant implications for the 2027 elections. As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, the party’s ability to adapt and respond to challenges will be crucial in determining its success. With the national convention approaching, the PDP will likely face further scrutiny and debate over its zoning decision and overall strategy. As the party moves forward, its commitment to strengthening its internal structures and promoting unity among its members will be essential in achieving its goals.
