The National Director of Operations for the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Afam Enemokwu, has accused the party’s leadership of neglecting its presidential candidate, Prof. Peter Umeadi, as well as other candidates during the recent presidential and National Assembly elections. Enemokwu specifically pointed to the leadership under Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, alleging that they failed to take necessary actions to secure victories for the party’s candidates.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Peter Obi, the candidate from the Labour Party, as the winner of the presidential election in Anambra State on Tuesday. Obi, a former governor of Anambra, received 584,621 votes and won in all 21 local government areas of the state. In stark contrast, Atiku Abubakar, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party, garnered only 9,036 votes, while APGA’s presidential candidate, Umeadi, finished third with 7,388 votes. Notably, the APGA candidate received no votes at Polling Unit 017 in AgU Awka Ward, which was won by Obi.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Enemokwu attributed the party’s poor performance at the polls to the leadership’s shortcomings. He criticized the Soludo-led administration for failing to provide adequate funding for the party’s campaign efforts. Enemokwu stated, “Our presidential candidate is more qualified to win the election because he has all it takes to be president of Nigeria. However, we did not do what we were supposed to do before now due to lack of funds, which was our only problem in the presidential election.”
He further emphasized that while Umeadi demonstrated his potential as a candidate, the party and the governor, who was elected on the APGA platform, did not offer him the necessary support. “Since the inauguration of the APGA Presidential Campaign Council, which spans all levels of the party, we have not been invited to meetings, received guidance, or been provided with funding. The APGA faithful are disappointed and frustrated that nothing has come from the leadership as it used to,” Enemokwu lamented. He also expressed his personal grievances, stating that he was sidelined by the governor and had been unable to meet with him despite prior arrangements.
In response to these allegations, Soludo’s Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, denied that the governor had abandoned the party and its candidates. He asserted, “It is not true that Soludo abandoned APGA and its candidates. As the leader of the party, on which platform he became the governor, it is the governor’s responsibility to support his party’s candidates, and that is what he is doing.”
