Nasir El‑Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, said he is confident that opposition leaders can unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Speaking on a Channels Television program, El‑Rufai asserted that he and other prominent figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have the political expertise needed to challenge the ruling party. As a founding member of the APC, he claimed insider knowledge of the party’s inner workings, adding, “We formed the APC; we know where the dead body is buried.” He also noted that Atiku’s experience with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would provide valuable insights for their effort.

El‑Rufai argued that their collective experience would allow them to confront the APC without relying on external factors. He criticized the current state of the economy and security under President Tinubu, saying conditions have worsened. This view is shared by other opposition figures, such as former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, who have recently thrown their support behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition to oppose the APC.

The ADC coalition—comprising El‑Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, Amaechi and others—aims to present a unified front in the 2027 elections. With their combined political experience and knowledge of the major parties, the opposition leaders believe they can mount a successful challenge to President Tinubu’s administration. As the political landscape evolves, the outcome of the 2027 elections will hinge on the opposition’s ability to offer a credible alternative to the APC.
