Kaduna LG polls: Vote SDP candidates - El-Rufai speaks amid coalition involvement

Dr. Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in the All Progressive Congress, has publicly criticized former Kaduna State governor Nasir El‑Rufai. In a statement, Kwankwaso described El‑Rufai as an “expired politician” who relies on desperate tactics, blackmail and dishonesty to achieve his objectives. Kwankwaso’s remarks were prompted by El‑Rufai’s recent comments about President Bola Tinubu and other politicians.

According to Kwankwaso, El‑Rufai’s actions aim to undermine President Tinubu and other potential candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. He believes those efforts will ultimately fail, citing the former governor’s lack of grassroots support and acceptance, as demonstrated by the recent bye‑election in Kaduna State.

Regarding the 2027 presidential race, Kwankwaso expressed confidence that President Tinubu will be a strong contender. He argued that other potential candidates have been tested in the past and have failed to deliver, making it unlikely they will pose a significant challenge to the incumbent. Kwankwaso also warned El‑Rufai that exploiting issues such as poverty, insecurity and economic devastation will not deter Tinubu from seeking re‑election.

Kwankwaso drew parallels between El‑Rufai’s current strategies and those he employed against former President Jonathan in 2015, noting that Nigerians are now more aware of such tactics. He said voters can distinguish between those who genuinely want to work for the country’s progress and those who do not. This criticism highlights the ongoing political maneuvering in Nigeria, with various factions positioning themselves for the 2027 elections. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the upcoming elections and the future of Nigerian politics.
