Former Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose has extended his congratulations to President‑elect Bola Tinubu following the latter’s victory in last Saturday’s presidential election. In a Wednesday tweet, Fayose wrote, “I congratulate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his election as the next President of Nigeria.” The Independent National Electoral Commission officially declared Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election, with a total of 8,794,726 votes. His closest rival, Atiku Abubakar, received 6,984,520 votes, while Labour Party candidate Peter Obi placed third with 6,101,533 votes.
Beyond his congratulations, Fayose called for the resignation of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, citing the chairman’s failure to advance the party’s interests. He also urged PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to accept the election results in the interest of national unity, stating, “As the presidential election comes to an end, I urge other contestants, especially Atiku Abubakar, to accept the outcome in the overall interest of our country. There will always be another day.”
