'We Would Gladly Receive Fubara,' Rivers APC Woos Gov • Channels Television

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has invited Governor Siminalayi Fubara to join the party ahead of his planned reinstatement ceremony. The invitation was made public by Darlington Nwauju, the reinstated APC spokesman in Rivers State, during an appearance on Channels Television’s *The Morning Brief*. Nwauju said that if he were in the governor’s position, he would announce his defection to the APC upon returning to the state. He added that the party would welcome Governor Fubara and, according to party convention, Fubara would automatically become the APC’s leader in the state should he join.

The spokesman also addressed the administration of Vice Admiral Ibok‑Ete Ekwe Ibas, the current Administrator of Rivers State, over the past six months. He clarified that the APC in Rivers State has not formally called for a probe into Ibas’ stewardship during this period. The budget approval that Ibas received came from the National Assembly, and Nwauju expects the relevant House of Representatives committee to conduct due diligence and report its findings.

President Bola Tinubu and Governor Fubara are both expected to return to the country soon—Tinubu cutting short his vacation in France and Fubara returning from London. Their return coincides with preparations for the handover of power in Rivers State, marking the end of emergency rule. The Rivers State Administrator has already begun a series of transition activities, and Tinubu’s early return from his annual holiday suggests a heightened focus on domestic affairs. Initially slated to spend ten working days abroad, Tinubu’s decision to conclude his break ahead of schedule may reflect a sense of urgency surrounding the transition.

As the state moves toward democratic rule, the APC’s invitation to Governor Fubara and the impending handover of power will be closely watched by stakeholders and the public alike.
