The Ogun State judiciary opened the 2025/2026 legal year with a merit award and retirement ceremony. Chief Judge Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu highlighted the achievements of the past year and recognized 23 judicial officers and staff members—including gardeners and security personnel—for their service.
Justice Dipeolu noted several significant strides made by the judiciary. Through jail‑delivery exercises, 149 inmates were released from state correctional centres, helping to decongest facilities and promote efficient justice. The court also appointed three new High Court judges and 15 judicial research officers, bolstering its capacity to handle cases effectively.
Technological upgrades were another focus. Verbatim recording systems were installed in several High Courts, and virtual courts were established in divisions such as Abeokuta, Sagamu, and Ifo. Additionally, 22 laptops were distributed to magistrates and judicial research officers, and a health‑insurance plan was introduced for magistrates and other judicial personnel.
While acknowledging the challenges faced over the past year, Justice Dipeolu expressed pride in turning those tests into stepping stones. She also bid farewell to retiring personnel, thanking them for their dedication and recognizing the legacy they leave behind.
The ceremony, held at the judiciary complex in Abeokuta, marked the start of a new legal year. With fresh appointments, technology upgrades, and new initiatives, the Ogun State judiciary is poised to build a more efficient, empathetic, and accessible justice system for its citizens, ensuring that justice is served fairly and promptly in the year ahead.
