Anderson Akaliro, a member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing the Umuahia North constituency, has formally resigned from the All Progressive Congress (APC). In a letter addressed to the APC chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Akaliro cited persistent internal crises, factional disputes, and a lack of cohesive leadership as the primary reasons for his departure. He also alleged marginalisation, noting that he was excluded from party meetings and events by the APC leadership in Abia, and expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing cycle of suspensions and counter‑suspensions within the party.
As the sole APC lawmaker in the Assembly, Akaliro’s resignation marks a significant loss for the party’s representation in the state.
