Kebbi PDP Vows To Sanction Members Sabotaging Upcoming Congresses • Channels Television

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State announced plans to discipline members who are allegedly undermining its upcoming congresses. The party’s Legal Adviser, Mr. Nura Bello, disclosed this information while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Friday. He said a Disciplinary Committee has already been established at the national level to deal with anti‑party activities and sabotage attempts.

The congresses, scheduled for September 20 and 27, have been surrounded by controversy. On September 18, a court order circulated on social media claiming to suspend the congresses in Kano and Kebbi States. Bello explained that the party quickly engaged legal counsel to challenge the order, which was later vacated by the judge because of misrepresentation of facts and lack of jurisdiction. He noted that the plaintiffs who filed the action were PDP members from the state and that the matter should have been heard in the state High Court rather than being escalated. Bello expressed disappointment that internal party issues were taken to court, emphasizing that Kano was not even among the states slated to hold congresses on those dates.

Despite these challenges, Bello reaffirmed that the congresses will proceed as planned on September 20 and 27. He urged all party members to attend in large numbers, stressing the importance of the events for the party’s internal democratic processes. The decision to discipline errant members is intended to maintain order and discipline within the PDP’s ranks. As the party prepares for the congresses, it aims to reinforce its commitment to internal democracy and party discipline, moving forward with the events now that the court order has been vacated and the disciplinary committee is in place.
