Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State called for greater attention to his state, highlighting its significant role in Nigeria’s colonial and post‑colonial history. He made the appeal during a meeting with the Joint National Assembly Committee on Works, which includes members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The committee, chaired by Akin Alabi, was on a working visit to Enugu to oversee federal road projects.
Governor Mbah urged the committee to secure larger allocations for Enugu in the 2026 budget and to expedite the federal road projects that connect the state. He stressed that improved road infrastructure is essential for expanding the state’s economy, which he aims to grow from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within six years. Chairman Alabi praised the transformations occurring under Governor Mbah’s leadership, noting the governor’s high approval rating both nationally and locally. He commended the creation of a conducive environment for federal contractors, allowing them to work smoothly and safely, and affirmed the committee’s commitment to ensuring that contractors deliver value for money.
The governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to road development and to facilitating federal contractors through necessary interventions. He specifically requested the committee’s assistance in speeding up the completion of the Makurdi‑to‑Enugu Expressway and the Onitsha‑Enugu Express Road, both of which are progressing slowly. Governor Mbah assured the committee that his administration is ready to resolve any issues related to rights of way and compensation that may be hindering the projects.
The meeting was also attended by Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu and Hon. Dennis Agbo, the member representing Igbo‑Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency. The discussion underscored the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments in delivering critical infrastructure projects that can drive economic growth and development in Enugu State and beyond.
