The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has inaugurated its Local Council Executive Committee members in 21 of the state’s 27 local government areas (LGAs). The ceremony, held at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, marks a significant step toward establishing a strong grassroots presence.
State chairman Professor James Okoroma described the event as a fresh beginning for the party’s political endeavors in Imo. He emphasized that the ADC is well‑prepared to contest any political battle and is determined to make a meaningful impact on the state’s political landscape. The decision to inaugurate executives in only 21 LGAs stems from unresolved issues in the remaining six areas, which the party intends to address later.
Okoroma highlighted the party’s commitment to transparency, ensuring that all major political blocs were represented in the nomination process. This aligns with the party’s constitution, specifically Article 13, which outlines the local government structure comprising LGA Working Committees and Executive Committees, totaling 53 positions. He advised members who were not listed to be patient, noting that other positions within the party’s structure remain available.
The chairman stressed that the ADC’s primary focus is to deliver the state from failed leadership, and the newly inaugurated executives are poised to play a crucial role in achieving this goal. He urged members to resolve disputes through internal mechanisms, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling that the party’s constitution is supreme and cannot be violated by individuals or groups.
The inauguration was witnessed by members of the State Executive Working Committee and other party officials, underscoring the ADC’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Imo State. This development highlights the party’s effort to reposition itself as a major player in the state’s politics, offering an alternative to the current leadership. While challenges lie ahead, the ADC’s resolve to replace failed leadership signals its determination to make a positive impact.
