FAAN launches contactless payment system at Lagos, Abuja airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a contactless, cash‑less payment system called “Operation Go Cashless,” in partnership with Paystack. This initiative aims to modernize payment processes at Nigerian airports and bring them in line with global digital standards.

Effective 29 September 2025, all payments at FAAN’s revenue points—including airport access gates, car parks and VIP lounges—will be cash‑free. Travelers and airport users will be able to make secure, seamless payments using contactless options. FAAN says the move responds to growing demand for secure, modern and transparent payment systems. By reducing reliance on cash, the authority seeks to boost efficiency, improve revenue assurance and enhance the overall customer experience.

The cashless policy is part of FAAN’s broader effort to keep Nigeria’s airports aligned with international digital practices. The agency has pledged ongoing improvement and plans to roll out the policy in phases across other airports nationwide. The first phase began with the introduction of the system at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

This development is expected to positively impact the overall airport experience, offering faster and more convenient services for travelers. As Nigeria’s airports continue to evolve, adopting digital payment systems represents a significant step toward greater operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. With the cashless policy set for nationwide implementation, travelers can look forward to a more streamlined and secure payment experience at Nigerian airports in the future.
