Jigawa APC Threatens Sanctions Amid Unity Crisis

The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a warning to its members, stating that any individual found undermining party unity or showing disrespect to Governor Umar Namadi and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will face sanctions. This announcement was made by State Deputy Chairman Alhaji Nasiru Dahiru Jahun during a visit to the Government House, where he led a delegation of party leaders to reaffirm their loyalty to the governor.

The delegation, which included members of the State Executive Committee and chairmen of the party from all 27 local government areas, expressed their support for Governor Namadi, describing him as the recognized leader of the APC in Jigawa State. They also endorsed President Tinubu and Governor Namadi for a second term in 2027. The party leaders commended the governor’s administration for its achievements, citing “wonderful transformation and unprecedented achievements” within the past two years.

However, the APC in Jigawa State is currently experiencing internal tensions, with factions loyal to former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and incumbent Governor Umar Namadi engaging in open clashes. The disagreement, which began after the transition of power in 2023, has escalated into a public confrontation, threatening the unity of the party. Observers believe that if the crisis is not managed carefully, it could weaken the APC’s dominance in Jigawa ahead of the 2027 elections.

Governor Namadi has assured the party leadership of his administration’s commitment to fairness and cooperation with the party. He also stated that the federal and state governments under the APC are focused on implementing people-oriented policies and developmental projects. Despite the ongoing crisis, neither Governor Namadi nor former Governor Badaru has issued a direct statement on the matter. The situation is being closely monitored, as the APC’s ability to resolve its internal conflicts will be crucial in maintaining its position in the state.
