APC: North-Central demands position of National Chairman

The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission has refuted the All Progressives Congress’s claim that it was excluded from the upcoming local government elections. In a statement, the commission said the APC deliberately boycotted the electoral process and is now trying to mislead the public.

The commission explained that nomination forms were sold from 8 to 17 September, with candidate screening scheduled for 23 to 30 September 2025. The APC had initially rejected the sale of forms, demanding they be issued for free and even threatening legal action against the commission. After this dispute, the APC did not take part in any further activities outlined in the electoral calendar.

Nevertheless, on 26 September 2025, the APC State Secretary, Mr. Fidelis, appeared at the commission’s office with files containing his party’s list of candidates. This was surprising because the APC had not purchased any nomination forms, a requirement under the Taraba Appropriation Law 2025, which mandates that the commission generate at least N50 million from form sales and remit the amount to the state government.

The commission expressed concern that the APC’s actions appear aimed at creating public disaffection and falsely claiming exclusion from the electoral process. It stated that the APC’s allegation of being “edged out” of the election is false and intended to stir unnecessary controversy. The commission emphasized that the APC had no intention of participating, having neither bought forms nor allowed its members to do so.

As the local government elections approach, the commission’s clarification seeks to reassure the public about the integrity of the process. The developments underscore the importance of transparency and adherence to electoral laws in maintaining credibility. Stakeholders and observers will continue to watch the commission’s next steps and the election outcome closely.
