Nigeria's Problem Did Not Begin With Tinubu's Govt — Akume • Channels Television

Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, stressed that the nation’s challenges are not unique to the current administration and that President Bola Tinubu is implementing significant reforms to address them. Speaking at a special service held at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, Akume highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in nation‑building, noting that every Nigerian has a role to play in creating a desirable nation.

He reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the country, citing reforms such as the removal of subsidies as examples of the administration’s efforts. Akume emphasized that the President needs the support of all Nigerians to succeed, observing that some of these reforms could have been introduced earlier. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism about the future, saying there is “light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Secretary also underscored the need for cooperation among the three arms of government—the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary. He pointed out that Independence Day is not only a commemoration of Nigeria’s freedom from colonial rule but also an opportunity to honor the founding fathers who fought for independence.

As Nigeria marks its 65th anniversary, the government is seeking to address longstanding economic and social challenges. The administration’s reforms aim to stimulate economic growth, improve living standards, and enhance the overall well‑being of Nigerians. With the support of citizens and cooperation among government institutions, the country can work toward a more prosperous and stable future.
