A Member of Parliament in Ghana has distributed more than 12,000 textbooks to schools in his constituency to improve teaching and learning. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, who represents the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, supplied a total of 12,406 books to primary and junior‑high schools.
The textbooks include 5,406 English reading books for lower‑primary students, 2,000 Twi reading books, and 3,000 English language books for upper‑primary students. An additional 2,000 English books were given to junior‑high schools.
Enrollment in the constituency has risen, with 10,794 pupils at the primary level and 7,843 students at the junior‑high level. The distribution of textbooks aims to support this growing number of learners and enhance education delivery in the area.
Mr. Dapaah said the provision of textbooks is part of his commitment to promoting quality education and ensuring that all children have access to learning materials. He emphasized that literacy is the foundation for academic success and that the books will help build a stronger reading culture among pupils. The gesture is also expected to ease the burden on parents and teachers.
Teachers and other education stakeholders in the constituency have welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and a significant boost to education delivery. They noted that the availability of adequate textbooks will improve teaching and learning outcomes and positively impact the academic performance of students in the area.
